A measurable relation

A golden section divides a length so that the whole relates to the larger part as the larger part relates to the smaller. In a layout, that can define a dominant field and a supporting field, a margin relationship or a nested sequence.

The spiral is not the ratio.

You can use φ without drawing any spiral at all.
